I enjoyed a nice slow run this morning with Shela and
Dave. Then we had a mini-breakfast group that included
Rachel and one of the two fast Steves.
I've decided to start logging weekly mileage again, and to
lay out a pyramidal training schedule leading up to the
March Madness half-marathon, which I would "run to finish,"
i.e., not for a personal best. (I had a fairly good mid-pack
time in that race when I ran it last a few years ago.)
I've decided that the running week begins on Saturday, so
last week I get:
Saturday: 5
Tuesday: 3
Wednesday: 3
Friday: 3
Or 14 for the whole week. The initial goal is to ramp up to
a weekly base of low 20s. The trick is not adding more than
about 10% each week. So this week, I'll be shooting for 16
miles. I'll give myself 6 for this morning's run.
The pyramid comes in, because following a longish base-building
period in which I should run at least one very slow 12 or 13
miler, I will add shorter hill and speed periods, with a
taper in the week leading up to the race. We'll see how
this goes.
